Credits from $99 pay-as-you-go, or plans from $100/month. Nothing added at checkout: no marketplace fee, no transaction fee, no deposit. We take 30% of each completed task; the Genie receives 70%. New clients get $20 in free credits.
The gap is roughly 4x at our ceiling against Toptal's floor. At our Entry rate against a Toptal specialist, it is closer to 20x.
That comparison is only useful if the work is genuinely comparable, and often it is not. A Toptal engineer with fifteen years at scale is not interchangeable with a Filipino generalist, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. But a great deal of work that gets sent to premium networks does not actually need a top-1% specialist, and that is where the arithmetic starts to matter.
On transparency
We publish our rates and our 30% take rate. Toptal publishes neither. That is a legitimate business choice on their part, since rates genuinely vary by role and seniority, but it means you cannot compare before you talk to a salesperson, and you cannot see how much of your hourly rate reaches the person doing the work.
Our 30% is high. It is also visible, which is the point.
Toptal: you speak with a matcher, describe the role, and receive a shortlist within roughly 24 to 48 hours. You interview the candidates. A two-week trial follows.
If it works, the engagement continues.The process is consultative and low-effort for you, which is a genuine part of what the premium buys.
RemoteGenies: post the task, or send us your to-do list and we write the brief. Screened Genies with matching skills bid, up to five of them. A Project Coordinator is assigned. There is an optional 15-minute call before you commit.
Faster to start and cheaper to try, but no human consultant walking you through it.
Toptal's screening is more rigorous than ours, and pretending otherwise would be silly. A stated sub-3% acceptance rate, a live technical interview and a test project is a serious process, and it is the core of their product.
Our screening covers skills assessments and verification of experience, communication and reliability before a Genie is listed. It is real screening and it removes the burden from you, but it is not calibrated to identify the top 1% of global engineering talent, because that is not the market we serve.
The honest framing: Toptal screens for exceptional. We screen for competent and reliable. Most operational work needs the second, and paying for the first is a common and expensive mistake.
At the top end, Toptal's talent is better than ours. That is what a sub-3% acceptance rate and $150/hour buys, and it is a real advantage on work where the difference between a good engineer and a great one compounds.
Where the advantage disappears is on work that does not have a top end. Inbox management, bookkeeping, content production, video editing, research, admin. Excellent execution matters, exceptional talent does not, and the market rate for excellent execution in the Philippines is a fraction of $80/hour.
Toptal is global and does not focus on any single market. You may well be matched with excellent Filipino talent through Toptal, at Toptal's rates.
RemoteGenies works only with Filipino talent, so if you need a specialist in a market we do not cover, we cannot help and Toptal can. That is a real limitation and it applies to most of Toptal's core categories.
Toptal uses human matchers rather than search. You describe the need, they propose people. It works well and it is a meaningful part of the service.
RemoteGenies routes posted tasks automatically to screened Genies with the right skills, up to five of whom bid, with a coordinator reviewing the match. Faster and self-serve, less consultative.
Toptal places the talent and steps back. There is no ongoing project manager included; the matcher's role is the placement. Once your engineer is working, managing them is your job, the same as it would be with a direct hire.
RemoteGenies assigns a Project Coordinator to every task, on every plan including pay-as-you-go. If a task stalls, the coordinator handles it.
This is one of the few dimensions where we come out ahead on the thing you are paying for. Toptal charges a premium for talent quality; we include ongoing task management. Those are different products.
Toptal engagements typically move to your own tools quickly, since you are managing the person directly.
RemoteGenies keeps communication on-platform with your coordinator included, so context is shared and someone else knows the state of the work. Work originating on RemoteGenies stays on the platform for two years unless a $3,000 per-Genie buyout is agreed.
The $79 monthly fee deserves attention because it does not stop when your engagement does. Cancel it when you are not actively hiring, or it accrues quietly.
Toptal: the two-week trial is the primary protection, and it is a strong one. If the match is wrong you have not paid for the work. Replacement is handled by your matcher.
RemoteGenies: funds sit in escrow until you approve, with a 7-day review window. If a Genie stops responding or does not deliver, escrow can be refunded or the task reassigned. Deliverables are assigned to you in full on payment, treated as work made for hire where the law allows. A Genie can request at most one extra hour per task, and only with your approval.

Sentiment, not fact.
Toptal's reputation among clients is generally strong on talent quality and weaker on cost and contractual flexibility. Recurring themes in independent 2026 reviews are the value of the trial period against frustration with minimums, the ongoing platform fee, and the lack of pricing transparency before engaging.

Toptal is the right choice when the work is genuinely high-stakes and specialist. Their screening is better than ours, their reach is global, and the two-week trial takes real risk out of an expensive decision. If your project would be damaged by a merely competent hire, pay the premium.
